Home About Legal & Financial Framework

Since its launch in 1997, at a conference of the EFSA Institute in Cape Town, the NRASD functioned within the legal and financial management framework of the “Cape Development and Dialogue Centre (CDDC) Trust” – as one of the divisions or projects of the Trust. In terms of South African law the Board of Trustees is the highest level of governance: Trustees are ultimately responsible for the governance (management, financial control, reports, etc.) – according to the King III report on governance of public institutions. In terms of South African law the fiduciary responsibility to manage funds, rest both individually and combined on all Trustees – a very serious responsibility indeed.

The current Trustees are Dr. Welile Mazamisa (Chairperson); Prof Russel Botman (Rector: University of Stellenbosch; Dr Thabo Makgoba (Anglican Archbishop, Cape Town) Dr. Andre van Niekerk (Dutch Reformed Church, Pretoria) and Dr. Renier Koegelenberg (EFSA Institute). In order to ensure compliance with all legal, financial and management criteria in King III, the CDDC Trust has several Charters and management structures in place.
Divisions/Projects of CDDC Trust:

  1. EFSA Institute for Theological & Interdisciplinary Research (established in 1990)
  2. National Religious Association for Social Development – NRASD (since 1997)
    • NRASD Contracts with SA Government (E.g. Social Development, Health, etc.)
    • NRASD Global Fund Principal Recipient (since 2009)
    • Johns Hopkins Health & Education south Africa (since 2009)
  3. EFSA Community Leadership Academy (since 2000)
  4. The Stellenbosch Mountain Academy (2013-1015)

The Trustees of the CDDC Trust have given a mandate to the NRASD Board to finalize and adapt guidelines for membership of the NRASD.
